Overview
Beauchamp Falls is a 10 m cascade on Greaves Creek, tucked into the cool, mossy depths of the Grand Canyon precinct near Blackheath. The waterfall drops into the Grose Valley and is reached from Evans Lookout or the Grand Canyon carpark via established bush tracks. Expect a proper Blue Mountains canyon experience: shady, damp, ferny, and far quieter than the most trodden lookouts.
What You'll See
The falls split around a central rock into a pretty double flow, framed by sheer sandstone, ferns and boulders. Getting there is half the fun—sections of the route traverse ledges cut into the cliff to bypass hazardous canyon ground, with stone and timber steps and a few creek crossings along the way.
The Walk
From Evans Lookout, it’s roughly 3.1 km return to the falls, typically 1.25–2 hours depending on pace and photo stops. The track is Grade 4: steep, rough in places, and short on signage. Count on a decent climb back out.
Conditions to Expect
This canyon runs noticeably cooler than the plateau—glorious in summer. After heavy rain, Greaves Creek can rise quickly and sections become hazardous or impassable. Fallen trees and obstacles are not unusual.
Wildlife
While species lists aren’t singled out for the falls, walkers in this area commonly encounter bush birds (including lyrebirds), goannas, and frogs around the creek.
Best Time to Visit
Pick warm, dry days for the most comfortable experience, and start early to bank daylight for the return. Give it a miss right after heavy rain due to flooding risk. It’s generally less crowded than the big-name viewpoints nearby, which helps keep it serene.
