Burralow Creek campground and picnic area

Burralow Creek campground and picnic area is an unpowered bush camp in a grassy clearing beside Burralow Creek, ringed by scribbly gums and a natural sandstone amphitheatre. Sites are unmarked, so you choose a patch of grass rather than a numbered pitch. The short walk to Bulcamatta Falls is the main reason to leave camp.

Both approaches use unsealed 4WD-only fire trails. From Sydney, Burralow Road leads to about 8 km on Tabaraga Ridge fire trail; from Lithgow, Paterson Range fire trail runs about 10 km to the bridge. The tracks are narrow and steep in places, and can be slippery when wet, so this is not a drive for a standard car. Book before you arrive; reception is limited.

There’s no drinking water or rubbish collection. Bring your own water and firewood from outside the park, and take your rubbish back out. Non-flush toilets are provided, and fires are allowed only in the fire rings. Dogs aren’t allowed, except certified assistance animals.

A short bushwalk from camp follows the creek into a small rainforest gully and on to Bulcamatta Falls. The route passes a pit dug by convicts; its age and purpose aren’t recorded. Take care at the creek crossing. Some visitors report glow worms near the falls after dark, but sightings aren’t guaranteed, and it’s sensible to learn the path in daylight first.

Nearby Burralow peat swamps are summer habitat for the nationally endangered giant dragonfly. Keep an eye out for the glossy black cockatoo too; it’s one of the park’s rarer birds.
