Queen Victoria Lookout

Overview

Queen Victoria Lookout is a small cliff-edge perch with a big payoff. Reached via a short, well-signposted walk from Conservation Hut at Wentworth Falls, it opens onto sweeping views across the lush lower Valley of the Waters with the roar of Empress Falls drifting up from below.

• Valley panoramas: Wide, uninterrupted vistas over the Jamison Valley and the lower Valley of the Waters.
• Waterfalls: A direct line to Empress Falls below; you can continue further to see Sylvia Falls and Lodore Falls.
• Classic Blue Mountains sandstone: Sheer orange cliffs framing dense, ferny gullies.

Getting There & The Walk

Start at Conservation Hut in Wentworth Falls and follow the Valley of the Waters Track. It’s a short, moderate walk with some steeper, occasionally slick sections after rain. The path is maintained and signposted, but there are intersecting tracks in the area—having a map downloaded helps if you plan to wander farther.

Wildlife

This valley is good for birdlife—keep an ear out for lyrebirds and cockatoos. You may also spot small mammals and the odd sunning reptile along the track.

Best Time to Visit

Weekdays or early mornings are your friend; weekends and holidays get busy thanks to the easy access and great views. After rain, the falls are at their most dramatic, though expect wet, muddy steps.

Treat the lookout as a teaser: continue down to Empress Falls and, if you’ve got time, link nearby cascades like Sylvia and Lodore for a compact waterfall circuit.

Safety & Practicalities

There’s limited fencing right at the lookout—mind your footing near cliff edges. Sturdy shoes are essential, and bring water and snacks; once you leave Conservation Hut, there’s little in the way of facilities on the track itself.
