Overview

Prince Henry Cliff Walk tracks the escarpment between Katoomba Cascades and Gordon Falls in Leura, serving up near-constant Jamison Valley views. It’s around 7 km (4.3 miles) one way and generally takes 3–4 hours end-to-end. This is a moderate, Grade 3 track: mostly well‑formed, with steps and short ups and downs, but no brutal climbs. Walk it point‑to‑point or nibble off a shorter section—there are many signed access points along Cliff Drive.

Highlights & Scenery

Expect a greatest-hits reel of Blue Mountains lookouts—well over 20—plus waterfalls and classic sandstone cliff country. Don’t miss Echo Point for the Three Sisters, with sweeping valley panoramas to Mount Solitary. You’ll pass Katoomba Cascades and Leura Cascades, with close-up waterfall views at spots like Bridal Veil Lookout. Keep an eye out for hanging swamps and summer wildflowers—Christmas bells pop with yellow and gold along the track. The exposed sandstone ledges and overhangs make the geology part of the show.

Trail Experience

This is the Blue Mountains at its most user-friendly: big views, bite-sized climbs, and the freedom to start/finish almost anywhere. From Echo Point you follow the signed Three Sisters Walking Track to stay on the route. Feeling energetic? Take a short, optional detour on the Giant Stairway for an up‑close angle on the Three Sisters before rejoining the clifftop. Benches and grassy clearings appear often—perfect for a snack with “million‑dollar” views.

Nature Notes

You’ll walk through pockets of eucalypt forest with seasonal wildflowers. Birdlife is a constant companion, and lucky walkers occasionally spot a Wallaby or an Echidna along quieter sections.

Best Time to Hike

It’s good year‑round. Spring and autumn bring comfortable temps and blooming wildflowers. Summer is lush (and floral), while winter can deliver crisp, clear air and fewer crowds. For photos, aim for early or late light; Echo Point gets busy, so start early if you’d like some elbow room.

Tips & Logistics

• Do it one way and use the frequent access points or public transport between Katoomba and Leura to connect the ends.
• Parking is straightforward at Echo Point (paid), Katoomba Cascades, and near Gordon Falls along Cliff Drive.
• Bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and snacks—facilities are sparse away from major lookouts. The visitor information centre at Echo Point is a good place to pick up maps and local advice.
• Wear sturdy footwear. The track can be rocky and slippery after rain.

Cautions

Sections can close after heavy rain or landslides; be prepared to detour via Cliff Drive if needed. There are unfenced cliff edges and stair sections, so take care with kids. The optional Giant Stairway is very steep and not part of the main traverse. No pets allowed on this track.
