Why hike it
If you want multiple, easy-to-reach angles on one of the Parkway’s most photogenic waterfalls in a single outing, this is the move. The Erwin’s View Trail strings together four overlooks—Upper Falls, Chimney View, Gorge View, and two platforms at Erwin’s View—for a greatest-hits tour of Linville Falls and the rugged Linville Gorge. It’s popular and family-friendly overall, but with enough stairs and rougher tread near the end to feel like a real hike.
The route and distance
Start at the Linville Falls Visitor Center (MP 316.4) and follow the well-marked main path as it climbs gently through shaded evergreen forest. Short signed spurs lead to each overlook.
