Why hike it
If you want maximum waterfall drama for minimal mileage, this is your move. From the Linville Falls Visitor Center, the route quickly splits: right to the cliffy Plunge Basin Overlook, left down to the base where the river hammers into a huge plunge pool. This is an out-and-back hike from the visitor center at Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 316.4. Take the right fork for the Plunge Basin Overlook—about 1.0 mile round trip.
