A quick detour pays off here: a short boardwalk off the main Cave Beach track leads to a simple lookout with big, open views over the bay. It’s an easy win for photos before you drop down to the sand.

What You’ll See

Expect sweeping coastal scenery—rolling dunes, curving shoreline, and the surf that makes Cave Beach a favorite with board riders. Dolphins are regularly spotted in the bay, and kangaroos are common around the nearby camping area at dawn and dusk.

How to Visit

Start at the Cave Beach car park and follow the main track toward the beach; take the brief boardwalk spur to the viewpoint. You’ll need a park pass to enter Booderee. The car park is decent but gets busy on weekends and school holidays, so plan your timing.

Pair It With

After the lookout, continue to the sand and head right to explore the namesake sea caves—access is tide‑dependent, so check tide times beforehand. Surfers love the swell at Cave Beach; for calmer swimming, many visitors prefer nearby Bherwerre Beach reached via the easy track from the camping area.

Facilities

Toilets are at the Cave Beach car park and again at the camping/day‑use area (about 300 m from the car park), which also has fresh water, cold‑water showers, and barbecue facilities. There are no facilities on the sand itself.

Safety & Etiquette

Beaches here aren’t patrolled—treat surf conditions with respect and supervise kids. Cave access depends on tides and swell; don’t enter if conditions look sketchy. Dogs aren’t permitted in the park. It’s smart to check park news and alerts before you go.

Best Time to Visit

Sunrise and sunset bring soft light across the bay and fewer people. Weekdays outside school holidays are the quietest. If you’re aiming for the caves, time your visit for low tide; for wildlife, go early or late.
