Trail guide
Telegraph Creek Nature Trail is an easy 2.4 km (1.5 mi) loop near Green Patch, usually about an hour. Start at the north end of Green Patch car park. The marked bush track passes through tall eucalypt forest and fern-lined creeks and swamps, then woodland and heath. The full circuit returns by a short link on Mingo Track and the Green Patch access road, so expect a little road walking near the end. Come for the vegetation and its interpretation signs rather than a summit climb.
The route moves between different patches of forest, creek and swamp, woodland, and heath. Older eucalypts have hollows used by birds and possums. The creeks are fern-lined, and freshwater crayfish may forage in the shallow water. Seats are provided along the trail.
Spring is the season to watch the heath for wildflowers, which draw a wide variety of birds. The flowering heath is a good reason to take this slow nature loop even if you are not looking for a long hike.
The walk is graded easy and takes about an hour. It is also signposted from Jervis Bay Road near the Green Patch turn-off. A Booderee park pass is required, and pets are not permitted in the park. The nearby Green Patch day-use area has toilets, fresh water, hot-water showers, sheltered barbecues, and picnic tables if you want to make a longer stop.
