Cave Beach Campground

Cave Beach Campground is a grassy walk-in campground among coastal tea trees in Booderee National Park, within easy walking distance of Cave Beach. It suits a beach stay if you don't mind hauling your kit in. Everything goes about 300 m from the car park to the campground, which has its own camp area separate from the beach day-use area.

Bookings are essential, and camping is only allowed on marked sites. Each site is 5 m by 5 m; tents must be smaller than 3 m by 4.5 m, and you need another site if your setup won't fit. The sites are unpowered, so plan your kit around that.

There’s fresh water, public toilets, cold-water showers, a sheltered gas barbecue area and wood barbecues. Pick up a tent tag at the Visitor Centre; if you arrive after hours, collect it the next day. Pets and generators aren’t allowed. Use the fireplaces provided, and on total fire-ban days all fires, including gas, are prohibited.

Cave Beach is a surf beach. Bherwerre Beach is also within walking distance and is noted as a good spot for swimming. Campers often report kangaroos moving through the grassy area, sometimes after dark; keep food secured and leave wildlife alone. Feeding animals is prohibited.

The campground sits on the Bherwerre Peninsula, where more than 100 Aboriginal sites have been recorded across the wider area. Some may date to around 6,000 years ago. The recorded site types include shell middens, rock shelters, stone-flaking places and axe-grinding grooves; that’s peninsula-wide context, not a claim about a site inside the campground.
