A mellow, family‑friendly loop that circles a small man‑made lake through Acadian forest. Expect an unrushed 1.5‑mile TOTAL loop with minimal elevation—more nature walk than workout—and a peaceful vibe that’s great for first‑timers, kids, or anyone looking to stretch the legs without committing the day.
Lakeside views come and go as the path weaves through mixed woods. It’s a solid spot for casual birdwatching, and you’ll likely hear—or see—frogs along the shoreline. Fall really shines here, with bright foliage mirrored on the water when the wind is calm.
Though rated easy, the surface is not a sidewalk: think roots, rocks, and sections that turn wet and muddy after rain. Short boardwalks cross marshy bits. Sturdy shoes help, and waterproof footwear is a win on soggy days. It’s generally well maintained and not usually crowded. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Trailhead parking is directly off the Cabot Trail at the lake (46.787754, -60.346626). The park is open year‑round, with full visitor services typically mid‑May to mid‑October. A valid park pass is required year‑round. Stay on the marked path and boardwalks to protect fragile vegetation. Recreational drones are not permitted.
Anytime you want an easy leg‑stretcher. Summer brings bugs—pack repellent. Autumn is the pick for color. Weather can change quickly along the highlands and coast, so carry a light layer even for this short loop.
You may still see an older 5 km/2–3 hour listing. The maintained loop most hikers use today is roughly 2.1–2.4 km (about 1.5 miles) and takes 30–60 minutes. A former extension toward the coast is noted as closed/not maintained.
Craving a longer outing afterward? Mica Hill offers a meatier, moderate hike elsewhere in the park. And don’t confuse this with Fishing Cove—that’s a separate, much longer trek down to the coast.
