Wingate Campground

Overview

Wingate Campground sits on a high mesa with long views toward red-rock canyons and the La Sal Mountains. It’s the park’s modern, developed campground—quiet, spacious, and a favorite for sunrise, sunset, and starry nights.

Campsites & Facilities

Expect a mix of electric sites and walk-in tent sites, plus a handful of nearby yurts. Every site has a shade shelter, picnic table, and fire ring. Restrooms are a standout: modern, clean flush toilets with sinks (and a dishwashing sink outside). There’s also a vault toilet in the mix. You’ll find a dump station on-site, but there’s no RV fresh-water fill. Drinking water is available at the restrooms. There are no showers.

Setting & Activities

You’re camping right in the heart of mesa country—expansive skies by day, a galaxy of stars at night. Short connections from the campground put you on the park’s rim trails for easy sunrise or sunset walks, and mountain biking routes are close by. It’s a peaceful, low-key base compared to busier options closer to town.

Wildlife

Around dawn and dusk, watch for ravens riding thermals, songbirds flitting through juniper, lizards sunning on warm rock, and the occasional rabbit or mule deer moving quietly through the sage.

What to Know

• No showers anywhere in the park; plan your cleanup in Moab (about 35 miles away).
• Water is limited on the mesa. Fill RV tanks before you arrive; use campground taps for drinking and dishes only.
• Pets are allowed on leash. Quiet hours run 10 pm–7 am.
• Firewood is sold at the park’s entrance/visitor center—don’t collect wood in the desert.

Best Time to Visit

Spring and fall book up fast for the sweet temperatures and golden light—reserve early. For photography, aim for first light and the hour before sunset; for stargazing, pick a moonless night. Weekdays are calmer than weekends, and breezes often pick up in the afternoon on this exposed mesa.
