Everglades Northwest Shark Valley Visitor Center and Concession Building

This is the hub of the Shark Valley district—a compact visitor center paired with the concession that sells tram tour tickets and rents bikes. From here, a 15-mile paved loop carries you deep into the Shark River Slough, ending at a 70-foot observation tower with sweeping views of the “river of grass.” Expect classic Everglades scenery and very reliable wildlife viewing.

Why it’s worth a stop

If you want the Everglades’ greatest hits in one outing—gators, big wading birds, and endless sawgrass—this is the place. The paved road makes it simple: bike it, walk sections, or sit back on the narrated tram. It’s one of the park’s most popular experiences for good reason.

• Walking segments near the center can still deliver plenty of wildlife if you’re short on time.

Practicalities

• Facilities: Restrooms and drinking water are at the visitor center; there’s a small gift/snack store. There is no water available along the loop itself.
• Rules and expectations: No airboats operate from Shark Valley, and no fishing is allowed here.
• Parking: The lot is small and fills quickly during the dry season; once it’s full, you may be turned away until spaces open.
