Overview

A quick detour off Main Park Road delivers you to a short, elevated boardwalk that loops through sawgrass prairie and a cypress dome before ending at a covered platform. The payoff is all about perspective: wide-open, horizon-to-horizon views of the Everglades' famed River of Grass without much effort.

What You'll See

Expect sweeping vistas of sawgrass marsh and dwarf cypress, with interpretive signs along the way that decode the subtle changes in habitat. Benches on the platform invite you to linger, scan the prairie, and soak in the silence.

Wildlife

This is a reliable birding stop—herons, egrets, and hawks are commonly spotted from the platform. In wetter months, you may catch sight of distant alligators, turtles, and a chorus of frogs and insects. Bring binoculars to turn far-off dots into real encounters.

Logistics

The loop is about 0.16–0.2 miles and flat. There’s a dedicated spur road and parking area roughly 12–13 miles from the Homestead entrance. No facilities here—plan water and bathroom breaks elsewhere. One entrance to the loop includes steps; the other entrance avoids them.

Worth Your Time?

Yes—if you want the Everglades’ grand, grassy panorama without a big time commitment. Most people spend 10–20 minutes here, which makes it an easy add between longer stops. Some find the view similar to what you see from the road; the elevated angle and quiet boardwalk usually make it more memorable.

Best Time to Visit

Go early or late for cooler temps, softer light, and better photos. Sunset can be gorgeous; midday is hot, bright, and buggy. This site has been periodically closed for boardwalk improvements—check current park status before you go.
