Overview

Echo Lake sits at the north end of the Notch, a clear mountain lake backed by Cannon Mountain and Mt. Lafayette. It’s the park’s classic swim-and-paddle spot, with a sand beach, mellow water, and a front‑row seat to those granite walls.

• Swim from the sandy beach and spread out on the shore.
• Rent a canoe, kayak, or pedal boat right on the beach; last rentals go out one hour before closing.
• Fish from shore or a boat when the lake is quiet.
• Spin the Franconia Notch Bike Path or the recreational trail around the lake for a low‑stress ride.
• Pair your lake time with a quick side trip up the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway or a stop at the New England Ski Museum nearby.

Facilities & Logistics

• Restrooms at the beach are available in season (they’re locked at night), and services scale back in the off‑season when comfort stations around the park may be closed.
• Parking at Echo Lake Beach is limited on peak days; day‑use reservations are offered and strongly encouraged during busy periods. Carry‑in/carry‑out rules apply.
• Cannon Mountain RV Park sits on the north shore: seven RV‑only sites, open year‑round. Full hookups are provided from Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day; after Columbus Day through late May it’s electric only with carry‑in/carry‑out.

Best Time to Visit

Summer weekends fill early—arrive before mid‑morning if you want beach parking and first pick of rentals. Late afternoon brings calmer water and soft light as the sun drops behind the ridge. After Columbus Day, expect minimal services and prepare to be self‑sufficient until late spring.
