Overview

Ride the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway to the 4,080-foot summit and step into a big, breezy panorama over Franconia Notch. On clear days you can spot Echo Lake below and distant ranges across multiple states. The eight‑minute ascent is half the fun—tram operators often point out landmarks as you glide up.

What You’ll See

• Sweeping mountain-and-lake views, including Echo Lake, ski trails, and peaks like Lafayette and Artists’ Bluff.
• On crystal-clear days, long sightlines into neighboring states and even Canada.

Summit Experience

A short, well-marked path leads to a 360° observation tower—expect some rocks and roots, but it’s a quick payoff. At the summit lodge you’ll find a café/bar (the 4080' Café), restrooms, and an outdoor deck to linger if the wind kicks up.

Hours, Season and How It Works

• 2025 season: May 23–October 26. First tram 9:00 a.m., last up 4:30 p.m., last down 5:00 p.m. Weather can change operations.
• Round-trip tickets only this summer; advance reservations are strongly recommended because popular times sell out.
• Capacity is high (up to 80 per cabin), but lines still build on busy days.

Best Time to Visit

Weekdays are easier. Aim for the first cars at 9–10 a.m. or after 3 p.m. to miss the midday crush—especially on Saturdays. For foliage, mid‑September typically pops. If clouds are socked in, wait it out; visibility can flip from “meh” to “wow” between trams.

Pair It With

Before or after your ride, pop into the New England Ski Museum at the base, then add a quick stop like the Basin or plan a Flume Gorge combo ticket to round out the day.

Good to Know

• It’s windier and cooler up top—bring a layer even in summer.
• Even with online purchase, you may need to pick up paper tickets at the base counter.
• Pets aren’t allowed on the tram or summit; use the designated dog-walk areas in the parking lots.
