Overview
This is the Otways’ showstopper: a 600 m elevated steel walkway set 25–30 m above cool‑temperate rainforest, capped by a 47 m Spiral Tower and a gently swaying cantilever over Young’s Creek. Do the full 1.9 km Rainforest + Treetop Walk loop and you’ll see the forest from the floor to the canopy in about an hour.
What You’ll See
Expect soaring tree‑fern fronds, towering eucalypts and a chorus of native birds. The Spiral Tower serves up big‑sky views over the ranges, while the cantilever delivers that heart‑in‑mouth moment (it’s designed to move). Keep voices low and you’ll spot more wildlife.
How the Visit Flows
You’ll start at the Visitor Centre, then a downhill path leads to the treetop walkway. After the canopy section, it’s an uphill return to the Visitor Centre—manageable for most, but it’s a workout. Open in most weather (rain adds to the rainforest mood); closures happen only in severe conditions like lightning or high winds. Last entry to the walk is 3:30 pm.
Zipline Option
Craving more adrenaline? The guided zipline tour runs about 2.5 hours and sends you gliding up to ~30 m above the forest, connecting cloud stations and suspension bridges. Book ahead—sessions often sell out.
Facilities
There’s a Visitor Centre with a licensed café, toilets, a souvenir shop, and parking. On‑site you’ll also find lockers and even a small playground. Mobile reception can be limited, so have your tickets saved offline.
Photography & Practicalities
The Spiral Tower is the spot for panoramas; the walkway gives unique canopy angles. The structure does sway—totally normal—so brace your camera for sharp shots. Bring comfortable shoes and a rain layer; conditions change quickly here. Drones are restricted—leave them in the car.

Weekdays are the sweet spot. Go early morning or late afternoon and avoid school holidays for quieter walkways and better wildlife sightings. Saturdays around midday are the busiest. Typical hours are 9 am–5 pm; plan to arrive well before the 3:30 pm last entry.
