Perched on the headland between Torquay Surf Beach and Jan Juc, Rocky Point Lookout is a quick, rewarding stop at the eastern gateway to the Great Ocean Road. It’s all about big ocean panoramas, rolling surf, and that fresh sea breeze—an easy win if you’re kicking off a road trip or stretching your legs in Torquay.

Getting There

Park near Torquay Surf Beach and walk a few minutes along signed paths to the lookout. It’s a short, easy approach, but parking fills fast on warm weekends and school holidays. The lookout is open 24 hours, so early and late visits are fair game.

Access Notes

Cliff erosion is an ongoing issue here. The Rocky Point beach access stairs have been closed long‑term—treat this as a clifftop viewpoint only. Stick to railings and official paths and skip any unofficial tracks down the face.

Best Time to Visit

Sunrise and sunset light up the headland and make the surf pop in photos. Crowds peak late morning through early afternoon on weekends; weekday mornings and evenings are typically calmer. It’s often windy—bring a layer and something to keep sand off your gear.

Use a wide‑angle for the headland panorama and a longer lens to frame surfers at Jan Juc. Overcast days still deliver thanks to sea texture and cliff contrast.
