The signed track starts beside Gungurul Campground and climbs through monsoon forest to the lookout. Sources describe it as a short, moderate outing; plan for anything from a quick up-and-back to a longer ramble depending on pace and conditions. The path is straightforward and well marked.
From the top, you’re looking over broad river plains and surrounding bushland—classic Kakadu scenery without the crowds. On a clear day the South Alligator valley feels endless.
Birding can be excellent around the forest and open country here; raptors patrol the thermals and the rare red goshawk has been recorded in the area. Bring binoculars and linger—this is a good spot to scan the skies.
