Gungurul Lookout Walk

From Gungurul Campground, follow the signed out-and-back foot track west through savanna woodland, then climb on rocky terrain to Gungurul Lookout above the South Alligator valley. The mapped corridor is about 0.6 mi (0.93 km) one way; allow about 1 hour for the 1.2 mi (2.0 km) return walk, including the climb and time at the lookout. Kakadu Tourism and the park itinerary identify this named lookout walk as 2 km return; the official campground page currently lists 4 km for its combined “lookout and river walks” listing. This record represents the lookout walk, not the separate 800 m return river walk. Gungurul is a moderate, Grade 3 track with a short climb and uneven footing. The campground is the primary start and has basic facilities including toilets.
