Wildlife

Expect classic waterhole action: hippos and crocodiles in the water, elephants coming to drink, and general plains game like impala and zebra milling about. The broader river corridor is productive for predators—lions and leopards work these thickets—so it’s worth sitting a few extra minutes. Birders should watch for waterbirds and raptors; African Hawk‑Eagle is noted in this area.

Getting There

It sits just off the H4‑1 tar road between Skukuza and Lower Sabie, with a short loop to the N’watimhiri Causeway (S79) running through attractive riverine bush. If you want a wilder detour, the S21 N’watimhiri Road is a 27 km sand road linking the S114 at Renosterkoppies Dam to the H4‑1; it has a remote feel and can deliver great sightings.

What to Expect on Site

This is a pull‑off viewpoint only—no toilets, no picnic tables, no shop. Plan to remain in your vehicle unless signage explicitly allows otherwise. Treat it as a focused game‑watch stop rather than a long break.

Best Times to Visit

Early morning and late afternoon are best for movement, softer light, and predator activity. Midday can still turn up elephants and hippos, but heat usually slows things down. After heavy rains, the S79 causeway loop may be affected—ask at Skukuza or Lower Sabie about any temporary closures.
