Overview

A small, unfenced, self‑catering tented camp set right on the Sabie River between Skukuza and Lower Sabie, this is for travelers who want privacy, comfort, and serious wildlife time without the bustle of the big rest camps. With only seven tents and sunrise views over the river, it’s quiet, immersive, and brilliantly placed for self‑drives along one of the park’s most productive roads.

The Stay

Each spacious tent is designed for easy, independent living: a kitchenette (large fridge, gas hob, kettle, utensils), private deck with a gas braai, and an en‑suite bathroom with a generous shower. You also get Wi‑Fi, air‑con/fans, and thoughtful touches like daily turndown. The camp runs on solar and gas, so it feels off‑grid but still comfortable.

Location & Wildlife

You’re on the H4‑1, a prime game‑viewing corridor along the Sabie River. Early starts here can be magical—long, quiet stretches with a real chance at headline sightings. Because the camp is unfenced, wildlife wanders by: guests regularly report hyena, elephants crossing the river, and the occasional predator encounter near camp. You can self‑drive or arrange guided game drives through the camp.

Eating & Supplies

It’s fully self‑catering. The adjacent Nkuhlu Picnic Site has a small shop and takeaway for light meals and snacks, but it closes mid‑afternoon—treat it as a top‑up, not your main grocery stop. Do your proper shop at Skukuza or Lower Sabie before arriving.

Good to Know

• Child policy: no children under 12; one child 12–16 may use a sleeper couch with two adults in a tent.
• Water: tap water is not potable—bring drinking water.
• Power: the camp is solar/gas powered; occasional limitations can happen during peak demand, but rooms have backup charging stations.
• Safety: it’s Big Five country and unfenced—follow staff guidance after dark; walkie‑talkies and on‑site security are provided.

Picking a Tent

Riverfront tents have the best views and feel more private; the two “bush” tents set back are still comfortable but lack the same outlook. If privacy matters, ask for an end/river tent when you book.

Best Time to Visit

Aim your main drives for dawn and the last two hours of daylight—the H4‑1 shines at these times, and the light over the Sabie River is beautiful for photography. Midweek stays tend to feel even quieter. Plan lunches on your deck or at the picnic site before it closes.
