Waterholes in the dry months concentrate life: expect regular traffic from impala, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, elephants, and buffalo. Predators often lurk on the fringes, using the steady flow of herbivores to their advantage. In the wet season, natural pans can spread animals out, and some artificial points may carry less water, so activity can be more variable.

Give it 30–60 minutes with the engine off. Scan the bushline, not just the water’s edge—shy antelope and ambush predators often hold back before approaching. Keep voices low and avoid repositioning unless necessary so you don’t disturb animals or block others.

Light matters more than gear. Try to keep the sun behind you: use the west side of the waterhole in the morning and the east side in late afternoon. A longer lens helps, but a steady beanbag on the window and patience will get you better images than constant shuffling.

Expect no toilets, shops, or picnic tables here. It’s a small pull‑off that fits only a handful of vehicles, so be considerate and avoid blocking the view. Remain in your vehicle unless signage explicitly states otherwise and plan bathroom/food breaks around main rest camps or designated picnic sites.

Dawn and the last two hours before gate closing are prime for movement, cooler temps, and softer light. Midday can be quiet and harsh for photos. Weekdays are typically calmer than weekends, but this is a low‑key stop—arrive early or late for your best chance at activity and good angles.
