Setting and Wildlife

Because it’s unfenced, wildlife moves through the area—visitors have spotted baboons, kudu and even lions nearby. Expect squirrels and birds to show up the moment food appears, so keep everything packed away when you’re not using it. The broader area includes a notable baobab tree and a nearby hide, making this a good pause on a game-drive loop.

Facilities

This site has what you actually need: shaded picnic tables, clean ablutions, and on-site skottel hire so you can fry up bacon and eggs for a proper bush breakfast. Hot water for coffee is often available. Unlike the larger picnic stops, there’s no listed shop here, so bring your own food and plenty of drinking water.

Getting There

Figure roughly 40 minutes from Satara if you don’t stop for sightings. Approaches can be corrugated gravel, and recent travelers have reported rough patches—check current road conditions at your camp before committing. Also note: this is not a through-route into the private Timbavati Reserve; mapping apps can be misleading.
