Overview

Set in Black Canyon on the Colorado River, Willow Beach is the mellow, water‑first corner of the park: dramatic desert walls, clear cold water, and enough services to make a full day easy. Come in hot months to live on the water; come in cool months to mix paddling with nearby desert hikes.

What to Do

• Paddle upstream to Emerald Cave (about 2 miles); lines form midday, so start early.
• Rent pontoon boats, fish skiffs, kayaks, or canoes right at the marina.
• Fish, picnic, swim, or even scuba dive off this calm stretch of river.

Facilities & Services

• Marina: rentals, launch ramp, boat slips, fishing pier, convenience store, and gift shop. Black Canyon Grill serves breakfast and lunch seasonally (closed until March 1, 2026).
• Campground: 28 full‑hookup RV sites (water/sewer/electric, fire ring, picnic table) and 9 walk‑in tent sites (two tents/six people max per site). There’s 24‑hour showers and laundry plus campground Wi‑Fi.
• Restrooms: flush facilities near the marina/campground; you may encounter vault toilets in the wider area. Picnic and launch areas have restrooms and drinking water/bottle‑fillers.
• Entrance station present at the area entrance.

Wildlife You Might See

Keep an eye out for desert bighorn sheep on the cliffs, golden eagles overhead, great egrets along the water, and lizards skittering across warm rock. Coyotes are more active toward evening. In spring, hedgehog cactus blooms add color. Admire plants without touching—some (like notch‑leaf phacelia) can irritate skin.

Best Time to Visit

• Hot months: make it a water day—boating, paddling, swimming.
• Cool months: pair a river morning with desert hikes like Liberty Bell Arch or a wander in Grapevine Canyon.

Crowds spike late morning through mid‑afternoon, especially on weekends; mornings are quieter. Most visits last up to four hours.

Practical Notes

This is true Mojave Desert—carry extra water, sun protection, and a hat. The access road narrows and can feel bumpy; take it slow. The river stays cold even in peak summer, so plan your swim time accordingly. Services exist on site, but broader supplies and fuel are a 30–45‑minute drive; plan ahead.
