Overview

About Beinglas Campsite

Why stop

  • Mountain-ringed setting on a practical West Highland Way stop
  • On-site bar and restaurant for a hot meal

Heads up

  • Facilities may feel basic or rough-and-ready
  • Busy summer nights can feel like a working route stop
Beinglas sits at Inverarnan, at the northern end of the Loch Lomond stretch of the West Highland Way, in a steep-sided valley with green hillsides rising close on either side. It works best as a booked overnight base: a working farm campsite where long-distance walkers, campervanners and drivers break the journey, eat a hot meal and dry out before moving on. The grassy camping field, low white farm buildings and dry-stone walls give it a plain, practical character rather than a resort feel, and that is a large part of why walkers plan around it.

Before you go

Best time to go

Spring through early autumn matches the main walking season, when the bar, shop and pitches are busiest and most useful. Book ahead for peak summer weeks and for anything other than a basic tent pitch. Arriving mid to late afternoon gives time to pitch, shower, use the drying area and get a table for a meal before the evening rush of walkers coming off the trail.

“You're coming up on the Drovers Inn at Inverarnan, a stone pub that began serving cattle drovers in 1705. The full-size stuffed bear in its entrance hall gives you a fair warning: this is an old, dark, eccentric place.”

  • A bar and restaurant on site, repeatedly described by visitors as warm and welcoming with good food
  • An on-site camping shop for resupply, which matters on a route with few options nearby

The site is at Inverarnan, just off the main road between Loch Lomond and Crianlarich, and is signposted from the West Highland Way as the route passes the farm. Walkers arriving on foot reach it directly from the path; drivers should use the farm entrance and park on site. There is a separate waterfall nearby that shares the Beinglas name and is not part of the campsite.

Honest drawbacksThis is a functional route stop, not a polished destination.

This is a functional route stop, not a polished destination. Some visitors find the facilities basic or rough-and-ready, and busy nights in high season bring a steady turnover of tired walkers and vehicles. The valley setting is genuinely handsome, but the site itself is geared to sleeping, eating and resupplying rather than to lingering, so treat it as a practical overnight base and plan your scenery for the walk either side of it.
