Overview
Tipsoo Lake Loop is a short, easy 0.7-mile loop that circles a photogenic subalpine lake near Chinook Pass. It’s a quick hit of high-country scenery—think meadows, water reflections, and clear views of Mount Rainier on a good day—without breaking a sweat. Expect a social scene; this is a very popular walk.
Trail Experience
The path is essentially flat and follows packed dirt with some boardwalk sections. Most hikers complete it in 13–30 minutes, making it a perfect stretch-your-legs stop or a family-friendly outing. You’ll skirt the lake’s shore through meadows and patches of forest, with frequent viewpoints for photos. If you’re craving more, Tipsoo is the jumping-off point for the longer Naches Peak Loop.
Best Time to Hike
Plan for June through October, when the area is generally snow-free. Wildflowers light up the meadows in late July and August; September brings huckleberries and fall color. Midday can be warm and bright—come early or late for softer light, easier parking, and calmer vibes.
Tips & Amenities
Start early on summer weekends—parking fills quickly. Bring water and sunscreen; parts of the loop are exposed. Restrooms and picnic tables are available at the main Tipsoo Lake parking area.
