Harry Harris Park is a 21-acre county waterfront park at the end of East Beach Road in Tavernier. It has a protected swimming area, but think small and rock-edged rather than a long sandy beach. It makes an easy family stop if a swim, picnic, playground time or boat launch is what you want. For a photo, include the rock edge and channel markers so the frame shows how the water is enclosed.
Picnic pavilions, tables and grills make this a good place to bring lunch. The park also has public restrooms, a playground, two baseball fields and basketball courts. Leashed dogs are allowed around the grounds but not on the beach, and there is a beach wheelchair for access.
The deep-water ramp is for motorized boats. Its 20 trailer spaces are day-use and first-come, and a vehicle with its trailer cannot be longer than 55 feet. The jetty gives you another short walk along the water; people also fish there.
The park is named for Harry L. Harris, an Upper Keys political figure who served as a Monroe County commissioner for nearly 28 years, through 1976.
