Cable Car Visitors’ Centre

Overview

This is the base-station hub for the cable car, sitting high on the TF‑21 at km 43. It’s where you grab a bite, browse the shop, and get oriented before gliding up toward the summit. Even when wind halts the cable car, the Visitors’ Centre usually stays open, so it’s a handy stop for views, a warm drink, and volcano context.

How It Works

Access to the shop and café is free. The exhibition is included with cable car tickets; otherwise it’s paid, and adult exhibition tickets can be redeemed for a discount in the shop or café. There’s free parking at the base, and information on what to do when you reach the top.

Pair It With the Ride

If you’re heading up, stock up here—there’s no café at the upper station. Weather and wind can pause operations, so plan food and layers accordingly. The base area sits at high altitude, and temperatures can swing fast.

Plan 30–45 minutes if you’re just grabbing a coffee, browsing the shop, and checking the exhibit; longer if you’re waiting on a ride window.

Best Time to Visit

Mornings before 10 and late afternoons after 3 are the sweet spots—midday is the peak crush. Weekdays are calmer than weekends, and on blustery days the centre is still a worthwhile stop even if the cable car pauses.
