Lind Point Trail

Overview

This is the go-to walk if you’re staying in or ferrying into Cruz Bay. Starting behind the Virgin Islands National Park Visitor Center, the Lind Point Trail links directly to Salomon Beach and Honeymoon Beach via a short, well-signed network with upper and lower branches. Most hikers do a scenic loop of about 2.0 miles total with roughly 300–350 feet of gain. Prefer a quicker dip? It’s about 0.75 miles one way to Salomon and roughly 1.1 miles one way to Honeymoon from the Visitor Center. Difficulty is easy to moderate thanks to a few short, steeper bits and rocky/rooty tread.

What You’ll See

Climb about 0.4 miles to the Lind Point overlook for big views of Cruz Bay and the cays scattered across Pillsbury Sound. The path meanders through dry forest and cactus scrub—keep an eye out for night‑blooming cereus on the edges of the trail. Footing is mostly packed dirt with rocks and roots, and the first stretch from town can be sunny before the woods deliver more shade.

Beaches

Salomon Beach is the quieter, no‑services option—perfect if you want a low‑key swim or snorkel along the rocky edges. Honeymoon Beach is longer and usually has amenities like chair and gear rentals, guided kayak/snorkel tours, restrooms, showers, and snacks; offerings can vary day to day. Expect good snorkeling along the rocks, and note there can be a noticeable drop‑off as you enter the water at Honeymoon.

Access and Parking

From Cruz Bay, start at the Visitor Center; restrooms are here. Parking is limited and may require picking up a day parking permit from the Visitor Center. There’s also a shorter access from North Shore Road via signed gravel pullouts, plus an optional paid shuttle service associated with the Honeymoon Beach area. Boaters sometimes moor offshore and swim or dinghy in.

Best Time to Hike

Open year‑round and lovely anytime, but this trail shines in the morning: cooler temps, softer light, and fewer people at the beaches. Midday gets hot and busier, and popular beach access fills early in high season.

Trail Tips

Wear closed‑toe shoes—flip‑flops make the rocky/uneven sections and the uphill return more annoying than they need to be. Bring plenty of water and sun protection. A great loop is Lower Lind Point out to the beaches and Upper Lind Point back for overlook views. Services at Honeymoon can vary; when in doubt, pack snacks and water. You may see donkeys on the trail—enjoy them from a distance and don’t feed them. Reef‑safe sunscreen and pack‑out etiquette keep these bays beautiful.
