Safety & Conditions

Honokohau Bay is rocky with powerful surge; it’s primarily for surf watching, not swimming or beginner snorkeling. After rain, Honokōhau Stream can muddy the water as it reaches the bay. Stay back from edges and never turn your back to the ocean—rogue waves do happen. Cell service can be spotty along this stretch, so don’t rely on it.
