Overview

About Grassington National Park Centre

Why stop

  • Easy launch point for Wharfedale walks and village exploring

Heads up

  • Functional stop rather than a standalone attraction
This is the practical starting point for Grassington rather than a sight in its own right. The stone-built National Park Centre sits on Hebden Road on the edge of the village, run by the National Park Authority, and its value is in the combination of large car park, toilets, information desk and shop with the village and the River Wharfe both within walking distance. If you want a destination worth a special trip, this is not it. If you want somewhere to leave the car, ask a sensible question about a route, and set off properly equipped, it is genuinely useful.

Plan your stop

Before you go

Best time to go

Staffed service is seasonal and hours change, so confirm before setting out if you specifically need the desk or the shop. Because the coach park is large, organised groups can turn up, and popular weekends in good weather are likely to feel busier than a quiet day, so arriving earlier gives you the best chance of a straightforward parking space.

The main caveats are simple: the centre is functional rather than scenic, the car park is paid, and much of what makes the stop worthwhile is what lies beyond it, in the village and down at the river.

Access and amenities

The building itself is wheelchair accessible, and there are level footpaths in the surrounding area, including Miles without Stiles routes suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. That said, plenty of walks from here are ordinary dales paths with gradients and stiles, so check specifics before committing.

  • Large car park plus a large coach park, signposted on the approach.
  • Five designated Blue Badge bays.
  • Toilets next to the centre, accessible from the car park, including a RADAR toilet and a Changing Places toilet.
  • Electric vehicle charging on site, app-enabled, with a parking ticket still required while charging.
  • Picnic area and recycling facilities.
  • Bus stop named for the centre, so you can arrive without a car.
  • Dog friendly and cycle friendly, and there is a drinking water tap on site.
