Best time to go

The site normally runs seasonally from mid-March to early November. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable, with fewer people around. Summer and weekends get busy. Early mornings are the calmest time for a walk from the gate, and late afternoon gives the warmest light across the dale.

This is a small, neatly kept family-run campground on the southern edge of Kettlewell, looking out over Upper Wharfedale. The main field sits about 10 metres from the Dales Way, so you can be walking the route within a minute of leaving your tent, and the village amenities are a short stroll away. It suits tents and small campervans; there is no space for caravans or large motorhomes.

About 150 metres out of the village, at the base of Great Whernside and beside Dowber Gill Beck, there is a separate Private Field with its own facilities and six electric hookups. Note that hookups are not for EV charging.

Follow the brown campsite signs rather than trusting a satnav route straight through the village, which can send you the wrong way on narrow streets.

These are open fields with little shelter, so wind and rain are felt directly and pegs and guylines matter. The main field is close to the village and the Dales Way, which is part of the appeal but also means passing walkers and neighbours nearby; at least one visitor has reported a noisy stay despite the stated quiet time. If you are travelling in anything larger than a small campervan, this is not the site for you.
