Getting there takes real navigation
DOC provides no track access to the hut. Plan your own route and navigate with a map, compass and GPS. One route account describes coming up the Poulter River from Poulter Hut, but this is not a DOC-marked approach. Unbridged rivers and side streams can become unsafe: if water is high or a crossing doesn’t look safe, turn back or wait.
A nearby river is not a confirmed drinking-water supply, and toilet reports conflict. Don’t count on either a treated water source or a toilet without checking first.
