This is the classic route from Sunshine Village over Healy Pass to a quiet backcountry-lake destination. The trail climbs through cool forest and broad alpine meadows, reaches the pass with expansive Rocky Mountain views, then descends into the Egypt Lake basin. Crowds are more common on the approach to Healy Pass; the trail feels quieter once you continue toward Egypt Lake.

Plan on about 15.4 miles/24.8 km total out-and-back from the Sunshine Village parking lot to the Egypt Lake Campground (E13) and back. The mapped one-way corridor is about 12.3 km/7.6 miles, consistent with Parks Canada’s published 12.4 km one-way distance. The route gains roughly 3,480 ft/1,060 m over the complete out-and-back. The climb is steady through forest and meadows to Healy Pass, followed by a descent into the Egypt Lake basin that you climb again on the return. Expect a full day, generally 7–9 hours, for a day hike.

- Trailhead: use the Sunshine Village ski area parking lot, then follow the signed Healy Pass trail from the base area. Parks Canada lists a summer shuttle from Banff; resort lift access is a separate seasonal option and is not the standard parking-lot start represented here.
- Overnighting: Egypt Lake Campground (E13) requires a backcountry reservation and permit. The Egypt Lake Shelter and nearby lakes are beyond the represented campground endpoint and are not additional route branches in this line.
- Gear: bring water treatment, a windproof layer, sturdy hiking footwear, bear spray, and insect repellent. Mosquitoes can be intense in summer.
- Route convention: this is an out-and-back. The stored line follows the physical corridor once from the parking-lot trailhead area to the campground; the visitor distance and duration include the return trip.

- Dogs must be leashed and under control; consider the distance and elevation change before bringing a smaller dog.
- The Monarch Ramparts ridge west of Healy Pass has a seasonal closure from June 1 through October 15; stay on signed official trails.
- This is bear country. Make noise, travel prepared, carry bear spray, and know how to use it.
- Backcountry camping requires the appropriate Parks Canada reservation and permit; check current access and shuttle information before setting out.
