A low‑key gem for history‑minded walkers, Asgard Mine pairs industrial relics with Blue Mountains heath and sandstone country. It’s reached by the Asgard Kiln and Mine Track, roughly a 5.6 km return (about 3 hours), starting from a small car park and delivering solitude more often than not.

What You’ll See

• A small mine adit right off the track, dark and short—bring a torch if you plan to peek inside.
• Substantial coke oven (kiln) remains with distinctive brickwork, plus scattered hut ruins.
• Asgard Swamp’s sedgelands and surrounding heath, with pagoda‑like sandstone outcrops and Grose Valley cliff‑top feel.
• Birdlife (honeyeaters, lyrebirds) and frogs around the swamp; occasional wallabies and reptiles.

Getting There

From the car park signed “Asgard Swamp 3 km,” walk past the closed gate and head downhill on the track/fire trail toward the kiln and mine. Side paths exist and not all are signed, so keep an eye out.

Know Before You Go

This is a simple bushwalk but not manicured: sections can be muddy, rocky, and overgrown. Signage is limited; carry a map/GPS. There are no toilets, water, or bins—pack in and out. Entering the mine is at your own risk; the floor can be uneven and slippery.
