Overview
Lyrebird Lookout is a named viewpoint on the cliff line near Wentworth Falls, reached via the Lyrebird Lookout Loop from Conservation Hut. It’s a proper scenic perch: fenced and signposted at the lookout itself, with classic Blue Mountains sandstone escarpments and a sweeping gaze over the Jamison Valley. If you like your views big and your walk short, this one delivers without the tour-bus vibe.
The Walk
Expect a roughly 1 km circuit (about 30–40 minutes) on a Grade 3, moderate track. It’s well formed and clearly signed, but there are short, steep sections and steps. The loop starts at Conservation Hut, making it an easy add-on if you’re already exploring the Overcliff/Undercliff network.
What You’ll See
From the lookout, you’ll get broad valley panoramas, rugged sandstone cliffs, and pockets of lush bushland. On clear days the layered geology reads like a textbook in 3D.
Wildlife
True to its name, this is lyrebird country. You might hear or spot superb lyrebirds foraging in the undergrowth, along with a mix of parrots and honeyeaters. Reptiles and the occasional wallaby can show up along the track.
Amenities and Access
There are no facilities at the lookout. Parking, toilets, and a small café are at Conservation Hut—the trailhead perched above the Valley of the Waters. The hut itself has a bit of heritage cred, having opened in 1963 as a meeting place for the local conservation movement.
Safety & Conditions
Sections can be slippery after rain, and not all nearby cliff edges are fenced. Keep to the marked path, supervise kids carefully, and give wet rock steps the respect they deserve.
Best Time to Visit
Early mornings and weekdays are your quietest bet. Avoid visiting during or right after heavy rain, when the short steep bits get slick.
Good to Know
This is Lyrebird Lookout at Wentworth Falls—don’t mix it up with Lyrebird Dell and the Pool of Siloam over in Leura; different spot and different walk.
