Scenic Skyway is the showpiece aerial cable car at Scenic World in Katoomba, gliding 720 metres across the rim of the Jamison Valley and hanging about 270 metres above the rainforest. The modern, Swiss‑made cabin carries up to 84 passengers and the floor sections turn clear for a goosebump‑inducing look straight down. First launched in 1958 and completely updated in 2017, it’s the blockbuster, crowd‑pleaser experience.

Crowds peak late morning through mid‑afternoon, especially on weekends and holidays. Aim for opening time (earlier on weekends) or after 3 pm for shorter queues and softer light. Views are weather‑dependent—on clear days you can see for miles; fog and rain can flatten the experience.

From the cabin you’re most likely to spot birdlife cruising the thermals below. The valley holds diverse forest species, but at Skyway height and speed, sightings beyond birds are uncommon.
