A low-key overlook at Milepost 49.3, House Mountain Overlook sits around 2,498 feet and looks out over the Great Valley toward the Alleghenies. It’s named for Big House and Little House Mountains, whose twin summits line up to appear as a single profile from here.

Expect a broad, west-facing panorama with long views on clear days. The distant House Mountains are the signature sight, and the layered ridges make this a classic Blue Ridge pull-off. Do note: trees near the parking area can block parts of the vista—walk a few steps between them for the best angle.
This is a quieter, lesser-known stop—great for a breather and a few photos without the crowds. It’s also the last scenic overlook heading south for about 15 miles until Otter Lake, so it’s a handy place to pause before a longer stretch of uninterrupted driving.
The west-facing aspect makes golden hour and sunset especially photogenic. On clear nights, it’s also a pleasant stargazing spot thanks to the open view and relative quiet.
Nothing specific is called out here; think of it as a quick scenic stop rather than a wildlife-watching destination.
