Centered around milepost 85.6–86, Peaks of Otter bundles three mountains—Sharp Top (3,875 ft), Flat Top (4,001 ft), and Harkening Hill (3,372 ft)—around tranquil Abbott Lake. It’s one of the Parkway’s most beloved stops, with sweeping views, classic hikes, and a rare combo of lodge, restaurant, visitor center, campground, picnic area, and multiple trailheads all in one place.

Tips for visiting Peaks of Otter

Arrive early or visit on weekdays to score parking and quieter trails.
Check the Sharp Top shuttle schedule; it’s seasonal and doesn’t run year‑round.
Carry plenty of water and snacks—there’s none at the summits.
For Fallingwater Cascades, you can start from Flat Top or Fallingwater parking; from Flat Top Parking, cross the Parkway to begin.
Book the lodge or campground well ahead for peak fall foliage dates.

Timing: Weekdays and early mornings beat the crowds. Fall color weekends are busiest.
Light: Sunrise and early morning give calm lake reflections and clear long-range views; late‑day light can be gorgeous on the peaks.
Seasonality: The campground and Sharp Top shuttle are seasonal—confirm operations before you go. Weather shifts fast; fog can sock in views any time.

Facilities and logistics

Food, rest, and info: Peaks of Otter Lodge (with a dining room and lounge), a visitor center, and a picnic area sit right by the lake. There’s a campstore and gift shop in the complex.
Camping: The Peaks of Otter Campground is large and seasonal; check dates.
Shuttle: A seasonal shuttle runs to near the top of Sharp Top, trimming the climb to a short final walk. The bus road is not open to hiking.
Restrooms: Available at the visitor center, lodge/restaurant, and campground. There are no facilities on summits.
