This is the park’s most convenient place to top up an EV on the west side: a bank of Level 2 destination chargers right at the Chéticamp Visitor Centre in Petit Étang. You’ll find both Tesla and J‑1772 connectors, with a total of eight plugs delivering up to roughly 19 kW. The site runs 24/7, so you can plug in anytime and make use of nearby washrooms, a nature bookstore, coffee, a playground, and a shaded picnic area while you wait.

How it works

These stations are part of Parks Canada’s network across six strategic spots in the park, set up through a Tesla donation. Charging is Level 2—think destination top‑ups rather than quick turnarounds. A full charge typically takes about 4–6 hours, so plan to pair it with your stop at the visitor centre or a nearby hike.

From here you can buy your park pass, register for programs (including night hikes), browse the bookstore for field guides and local reads, grab a coffee, or let the kids loose at the playground. Picnic tables make it an easy lunch stop while your car sips electrons.

Seasonal notes and caveats

The chargers operate year‑round, but after winter storms the pedestals can end up snow‑banked—carry a small shovel and check Parks Canada alerts before a winter trip. Pricing and activation details aren’t posted uniformly; follow on‑site signage and check a charging app for recent user updates.

Best time to visit

Charging is available 24/7. If you want full services on hand, time your stop during the visitor services season (May 16 to October 26, 2025). Daylight makes the site easier to spot given the limited roadside signage. If you need faster charging, plan for DC fast options outside the park (e.g., Aulds Cove, Whycocomagh, Baddeck, or Sydney) before or after your Cabot Trail drive.
