Chéticamp Campground

Chéticamp Campground is a front-country campground in the Chéticamp River valley, set between the river and the mountains. With 97 reservable sites and a mix of wooded and open pitches, it’s a practical base on the park’s western side if you want showers and flush toilets close at hand. This is a sizeable campground, though, not a secluded backcountry camp; many visitors find the sites close together and privacy limited.

The 97 sites include 49 unserviced, 14 electrical, 24 three-way serviced sites with electricity, water and sewer, plus 10 oTENTiks, the park’s roofed tent-cabins. One oTENTik, one three-way site and two electrical sites are marked accessible. If you need hookups or a roofed stay, reserve ahead: serviced sites and oTENTiks are especially worth planning for in July and August, when the campground can fill.

Four of the park’s 26 hiking trails are easy to reach from the campground, so it works well for a few days of exploring rather than a single overnight. The nearby Chéticamp River valley has both wooded and open scenery, and the town of Chéticamp and nearby beaches are a short drive away.

The campground has showers, flush toilets, fire pits, picnic and kitchen shelters with wood stoves, a playground, kiosks and interpretive programs. Firewood is sold at the kiosks and visitor centres. There’s no restaurant listed at the campground; the nearby visitor centre has coffee and a nature bookstore, while Chéticamp is the better bet for other meals.
