Set along the Chéticamp River with mountains rising behind, this is the west‑side basecamp for exploring the Cabot Trail. It’s calm, family‑friendly, and practical—close to town yet inside the park, with trailheads leaving right from camp.
There are 97 reservable campsites open May 16–October 26, 2025, plus 10 oTENTik units (one accessible). The mix includes 24 three‑way (20/30/50A, water, sewer) sites—15 with fireplaces and 9 without—14 electrical‑only sites (12 with fireplaces, plus 2 accessible with fireplaces), and 49 unserviced sites (38 with fireplaces, 11 without). You’ll find hot showers, flush toilets, potable water, kitchen shelters with wood stoves, fire pits (not on every site), a playground, and summer interpretive programs. Firewood is sold at kiosks and the visitor centre, and there’s geocaching too.
Two trailheads start at the campground, including the Acadian and Salmon Pools trails. Le Buttereau is close by, and the Skyline Trail is a short drive. Anglers can try for native brook (speckled) trout—be sure to confirm seasons and permits.
Check‑in after 2 pm; check‑out by 11 am. Quiet hours run 11 pm–7 am; generators are quiet 9 pm–8 am. Fires only in provided fireplaces and buy/burn local wood. Pets must be leashed and are not permitted in oTENTiks or equipped tents. Some sites (14–20) are smoke‑free, and smoking is prohibited within 20 m of the playground. An entry pass is required for national parks with fees.
The reservation window covers all sites during the May–October season, and this place can book out in July–August. In shoulder seasons, you may register at the visitor centre or self‑register if it’s closed. Peak kiosk hours typically run 9 am–7 pm from June 19–September 7. If it’s full, staff sometimes direct campers to an unserviced overflow area roughly 5 km north along the Cabot Trail.
The nearby visitor centre offers a nature bookstore, coffee, and Wi‑Fi. The town of Chéticamp has groceries, restaurants, gas, museums, a sandy swimming beach, and whale tours.
Arrive earlier in the day for the best site feel and to beat the shower rush.
