Overview

This is a quick, rewarding stop along Chippewa Road near the Route 82 entrance, where you can peer straight into the Chippewa Creek Gorge. The creek slices through layers of Berea Sandstone, and when flows are up, the falls are the star—short but punchy and photogenic. It’s the kind of spot where you step out of the car and immediately feel like you’ve stumbled on a little pocket of wild.

What You’ll See

• A steep, wooded ravine with sculpted sandstone ledges and boulders.
• Views toward Upper and Lower Chippewa Creek Falls, which swing from gentle cascades in summer to roaring after a good rain.
• Short paths and the Hemlock Trail nearby for more rim‑top vantage points and a longer wander along the gorge.

Why It’s Worth a Stop

You get a lot of scenery for very little effort: roadside access, classic sandstone geology, and waterfall action when conditions are right. It’s a solid photo stop and a nice add‑on if you’re already exploring the Brecksville side of the valley.

Keep an eye (and ear) out for songbirds working the canopy, deer moving along the forest edge, and butterflies cruising the nearby prairie in season. In the creek, you’ll spot small fish and frogs when flows are calmer.

• After rain, expect the best waterfall show and muddier, slicker footing—wear real shoes.
