Guide
Flamingo Marina is a year-round harbor on Florida Bay at the far south end of Everglades National Park. You can watch from the dock, take a guided trip, rent a boat or kayak, or launch your own. Make the drive if you want time on the water or a chance to spot wildlife; pair it with other Flamingo stops, since it is about an hour south of the park's main entrance.
Naturalist- or ranger-led trips run about 90 minutes. The backcountry tour follows Buttonwood Canal through Coot Bay and Tarpon Creek into Whitewater Bay. Florida Bay trips pass mangrove keys and seagrass beds, and run seasonally from November through April. If you rent a motorboat, complete the park's free boater education course before operating it.
The dock is worth a pause even if you stay on land. Look for manatees, tarpon and crocodiles in the marina water. Keep an eye out for manatees, tarpon and crocodiles, but sightings are not guaranteed. Give yourself a little time around a boat trip to look over the basin.
The Marina Store carries snacks, drinks, to-go food, ice, camping supplies and frozen bait and tackle. Gasoline and diesel are available for vehicles and boats. The sit-down restaurant is at Flamingo Lodge, a separate stop. The marina area also has restrooms, drinking water, parking, picnic tables and boat hookups.
Flamingo is remote, about 38 miles south of the park's main entrance, and there is no public transit to the area. Plan your return drive as part of the visit.
