Plan your stop

Before you go

A Homestead stop, not a park facility

Robert Is Here is a family-run fruit market on the Homestead approach, outside Everglades National Park. I’d make it an optional stop if you want to browse tropical produce or take a family break; it’s a separate roadside business, not an in-park visitor center or food stop.

The stand carries hundreds of kinds of fruit through the year, mostly grown locally, alongside fresh-made shakes and smoothies. Ask about tropical flavors such as mango, mamey, guanabana, and key lime; some offerings are seasonal. You can combine up to three flavors in a shake, which is a good way to try something unfamiliar without committing to a whole fruit.

The story starts in 1959, when six-year-old Robert was sent to sell cucumbers beside the road. Nobody stopped on day one, so his father painted a sign with Robert’s name; by noon the next day, Robert had sold out. The stand grew from that simple sign and has stayed a family business. After Hurricane Andrew damaged the area in 1992, the family rebuilt with help from the community.

There’s a petting zoo with goats, tortoises, emus, and more, plus a shaded play area, picnic tables, and free parking. Those extras make this more of a family stop than a quick produce pickup. Some visitors find the fruit and drinks pricey, so come for the unusual selection and the experience rather than bargain groceries.
