The access turnoff is about 1 km north of the Wirrealpa turnoff on Blinman Road; the final approach has been described as roughly 3 km on dirt. “The ruins at Appealinna sit on both sides of a creek for a reason. In 1856, pastoralist Joseph Wills built his homestead and stockyards on the south bank. Copper miners settled on the north bank soon after.”

Appealinna is a spread-out collection of pastoral homestead and copper-mining ruins, with stone remains on both sides of a creek. Joseph Wills built the homestead and stockyards here in the 1850s. You’ll find roofless walls and traces of the miners’ settlement rather than one restored building.

Look aroundThis is a good stop if you like reading a place through what’s left of its stonework.

This is a good stop if you like reading a place through what’s left of its stonework. Look for the flat stone quarried here and compare the different building remains across the creek. The appeal is the contrast between the working homestead and mining settlement; if you need one intact landmark, the ruins are modest and scattered. For photos, include some open scrub around the broken walls so the site feels as spread out as it is.
