Hucks Lookout is a signposted roadside viewpoint on Flinders Ranges Way, between Wilpena and Blinman. A drive-in car park sits just off the sealed road, looking toward the main Wilpena Pound range across the surrounding hills. This is a low-effort landscape stop rather than a summit outing: the view is the reason to pull in, and the visit fits neatly into a longer drive.

How it comparesHucks is a good choice when you want an easy roadside view of the Pound.

Hucks is a good choice when you want an easy roadside view of the Pound. It sits lower than Stokes Hill and doesn’t give the same broad panorama, so the two stops feel different even though both face the main range. Come here for a quick pause and a straightforward view; choose Stokes Hill if the wider, higher panorama is the one you’re after.

Frame the rangeThe main range lines the horizon beyond the nearer country.

The main range lines the horizon beyond the nearer country. Keep some of those foreground hills in the picture; they give the distant ridge a sense of depth. Early morning and late afternoon are the recommended windows for colour on the ranges, though light and visibility vary with conditions. This is a photo-friendly stop, but the view itself is simple: a long skyline, open country and the changing light on the Pound.

From Wilpena Pound, Hucks is about 15 kilometres and roughly a 20-minute drive along Flinders Ranges Way toward Blinman. Watch for the signed car park just off the sealed road. The lookout is on Upalinna Station land, and visitor information describes the roadside stop as open to the public. Keep to the designated viewpoint; public access to the lookout does not mean the surrounding station tracks are open for exploring.
