The Isle Royale Queen IV Ferry Dock is the fixed passenger-ferry terminal on Copper Harbor’s waterfront. The Queen IV leaves here for Rock Harbor, at the northeast end of Isle Royale. This is a key way into the park, but the dock is a departure point rather than a sightseeing stop. The ferry carries passengers, not cars.

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before sailing. Staff direct check-in, parking and loading. Summer sailings often fill, so arrange your booking ahead; seating is reported to be first-come, first-served if your group wants to sit together. The season usually runs from early May through late September, with dates and times varying by year.

Parking is across the street from the dock. Overnight parking is offered there, but confirm the current terms before leaving your car, especially for a day trip.

The trip to Rock Harbor takes a little over three hours one way. Lake Superior can turn rough, and weather can add hours or push a sailing to the next morning, so leave room in plans that depend on the return boat. The Queen IV has restrooms and a snack bar once you’re aboard; those are on the boat, not at the dock. If you’re prone to motion sickness, riders recommend bringing medicine.

From US-41, continue through Copper Harbor’s only traffic light and go two blocks to the waterfront. Turn right and continue one block east; the dock entrance is on your left, with parking on the right.
