Overview

Jabiru Foodland (also known as Kakadu Supermarket, and sometimes called Jabiru IGA) is the town’s go‑to supermarket in the heart of Jabiru. If you’re self‑catering, camping, or just topping up between walks, this is the one place in the park with a true supermarket selection.

What to Expect

It’s a medium‑sized, clean store with the usual aisles plus a deli that turns out coffee, sandwiches, wraps, pies and other grab‑and‑go bites. You’ll see a mix of locals, rangers and road‑trippers stocking up on fresh produce, meat and pantry staples. The shop sits in the Jabiru Town Centre cluster, right by the post office, library and community health centre.

Why It Matters

There are very few places to buy groceries in Kakadu, and most remote lodges only carry basics. Foodland is the exception—your best bet for a proper shop before heading deeper into the park. Plan to provision here rather than gambling on smaller outposts later.

Prices, Stock and Alcohol

This is a remote town; expect a transport premium on many items. Popular or niche products can sell out after busy periods, especially later in the day. Packaged alcohol isn’t sold here (and reports suggest there’s no bottle shop in town), so plan accordingly.

Hours and Best Time to Visit

Typical hours run Mon–Fri 9:00–5:30, Sat 9:00–3:00, Sun 9:00–1:00, with shorter hours or Sunday closures possible in the wet season. For the best selection and a quick in‑and‑out, shop at opening. Midday tends to be busiest on weekdays and Saturdays; late afternoon on weekdays is calmer.

Wildlife Note

You won’t find wildlife in the aisles, but Jabiru sits inside a biodiverse landscape. Around town at dawn or dusk, you may spot wallabies or birdlife on your way to and from the store.
