A quick, high-payoff walk to see Exit Glacier without breaking a sweat. The Glacier View Loop is a short, easy loop from the Exit Glacier Nature Center that serves up a wide, head-on look at the glacier pouring off the Harding Icefield. It’s designed to be accessible, family-friendly, and doable in well under an hour.
What to expect
This is a 1.1-mile total loop on a mostly level mix of paved path and firm gravel. You’ll weave through cottonwood forest with interpretive signs, pass scoured bedrock and historic year-markers that show how far the ice once reached, then reach a broad viewpoint of the glacier and outwash plain. Much of the loop is wheelchair and stroller friendly; the far section near the outwash can be rougher. Expect company—this is one of the park’s most popular strolls.
Logistics and timing
Start at the Exit Glacier Nature Center/parking area; restrooms are at the center. Plan 30–45 minutes at a relaxed pace. Parking fills quickly in summer—arrive early or late in the day. If you want more, continue from the loop onto the Glacier Overlook Trail for about 0.6 miles farther to a closer view, with steeper grades. Best season is late May through September; Exit Glacier Road typically closes to vehicles in snowy months. Even in summer, conditions are cool and damp—bring layers and rain protection. No pets are allowed on trails in the Exit Glacier area.
