White River Entrance Station

Overview

This is the gateway to the Sunrise corridor on the park’s northeast side. It sits just off SR 410 where the road to Sunrise begins, and it’s the most direct way to reach Sunrise, White River Campground, and a cluster of popular trailheads.

What you’ll find here

Right inside the entrance is the White River Wilderness Information Center. It’s where you handle wilderness camping and climbing permits for the north and east side routes, and you can ask rangers trip-planning questions. A restroom is located at the information center. Expect minimal services otherwise—no food, gas, or store at the gate.

Why use this entrance

If your plans include Sunrise or backpacking/climbing on this side of the mountain, this entrance is the efficient choice. It puts you on the only road up to Sunrise and close to White River Campground and nearby trailheads.

Need-to-know

• The Wilderness Information Center is closed in winter.
• Services are limited at the entrance—plan food and fuel before you arrive.
• It’s a well-used approach during peak summer, especially when Sunrise facilities are open.

Best time to visit

Summer weekdays and early mornings are your best bet for a quick roll-through. If you’re heading to Sunrise, build in the drive time from the entrance; it’s about 14 miles uphill to the Sunrise area. In winter, the information center is closed, so plan permits accordingly elsewhere.
